Nordic roller skiing time trial turns pro with recovery sports therapy
Hillingdon cycle circuit was the host to this weekends nordic rollerski 10km time trial with the London region nordic ski club and it was a great day for all involved. What is nordic roller skiing?
Just like any other sport, there are seasons and off seasons. Nordic skiing is a winter snow sport where the heel of the boot is not fixed to the bindings (like in alpine skiing) allowing greater movement within the ankle. In the summer, skiers train and compete using roller skis. Generally speaking, nordic skiing involves skiing on the flat as well as up & downhill. The sport demands a good cardio-respiratory base, balance, strength, coordination & technique. My role at the event was to provide sports therapy services to the competitors with pre/ post event sports massage, taping, advice on reducing injury & performance aiding solutions through strength building. I'd like to thank all involved at the LRNSC for making me welcome and part of the event. If you'd like to have a go at nordic skiing, visit the LRNSC website to find out more information about the next taster day http://www.londonnordic.org.uk/
